Operation Screentime

This is a campaign I am running in conjunction with my Office and local schools to raise awareness of the problems with excessive screen time, cyber bullying and online safety. It is aimed at pupils in Years 5, 6 and 7.

The presentation is based on the results of my Youth Survey from 2024. During the session, children will work through a guided workbook which will ask about their screen time, digital footprint, the law and where they can get help.

The presentation itself asks about:

• Screen time of kids in Kent

• When they go online

• What platforms they use

• Young people’s experiences of cyber bullying

• Where they sought help

Children will be told where they can get help and given practical tips on how to keep themselves safe online using two principles. These are the 5 Ps and “is it worth it” – whether what they share is positive and adds to the world, rather than be negative.

The session concludes with a choice of activity, either producing a poster about something they’ve learned or designing a campaign to raise awareness of something they’ve seen or change they would make.

If you know a school that might be interested, please ask them to email contactyourpcc@kent.police.uk.
