Getting to grips with cyber security and digitally-enabled crime

Getting to grips with cyber security and digitally-enabled crime

I was pleased to be invited to speak at a debate in Parliament this evening on the challenges faced by UK Policing, businesses and others of cyber crime and fraud.

Organised by the think tank Parliament Street, I joined representatives from Hiscox Insurance, BT and BeCrypt to answer questions from the 40 plus guests.

Cyber crime and fraud accounts for nearly half of all crimes in the UK, but with all of the challenges Policing faces from demand, there aren’t sufficient local resources to address this in its entirety.

But positive progress has been made in Kent, where we have dedicated Officers and staff, and the Government has invested in the national cyber security centre, which has prevented 10 attacks a week since it was founded two years ago.

It has been another busy day, where I also spoke at a Kent Police leadership event in Maidstone, which focused on modern day slavery and trafficking.

  1. Delighted to see you are doing an excellent job for Kent and sharing what is learned here with the rest of the country.
